Evaluation

What have you been asked to do?
I have been asked to create a CAL programme with other class members to make a group and have been told to create a programme for a target audience. Before we made a start on creating the CAL programme we worked together as a group on what we wanted our CAL to look like and if the CAL suits the target audience.

What scenario did you choose?
The scenario that my group have chosen was the rocks and formations scenario. As soon as we picked our scenario we immediately work as a group and got started with creating our programme starting with the research.

Research
As a group we sorted out that if we all did a piece of research as an group so that as soon as we get to finish the research about rocks and formations the more time we can have at creating the CAL programme on Flash.

Planning
Before we were giving the choice to choose which scenario to work from, my group started to create a storyboard with all the scenarios and going into more detail into each scenario. I found creating the storyboards made it clear of what I had to do for the group that could help me work on the CAL programme.

Software
The software that we used while we were creating the CAL programme is Audacity that I used to create and edit the sound effect that was used when we the user presses another page within the programme.

Photoshop & Illustrator
Another software that we used while creating the CAL Programme to help create the images was Adobe’s Illustrator and Photoshop to help create JPEG images for the CAL programme as well as creating the images to help create the animation. We used Photoshop to help create the animation for the CAL programme but coming from the feedback that I got from our report that we could have used/created more images for the animation or use better images for the animation.

Flash
The software that my group used to create the CAL programme was Adobe’s Flash. Flash is a totally different from the last software that we used to create our own individual CAL programmes which we had to create the programme with Dreamweaver. I would have used an HTML software that would be better then Dreamweaver because I had little knowledge on Adobe Flash.

Premier Pro
Premier Pro is the software that we used to edit the video that we have on the CAL programme. The original video that we had planned to use for our CAL programme was too long and had some parts of the video was not in the text so we decided to shorten the video and keep the parts of the video that we needed.

Creating Buttons/Pages
My group didn’t just created buttons that would take people using to a different page wasn’t just a button but it was a rollover buttons that changes once the user’s mouse hovers over the buttons. The rollover colour that the user sees when the mouse hovers over the button is a darker colour then the default white font colour but not as dark as the black background.

Creating Animation
My group created a short animation that can be found in every page of the CAL programme and the way that we had created was create using 3 clip art images and the images fade in and fade out.  We created the animation with the help of using Photoshop and we all helped create the animation but the animation could use move images in the animation.

Linking Pages
I didn’t know how to link one page to another with adobe Flash so I couldn’t do much help with it so I watched how to link pages to each other so when I have to create something with flash in the future in case it is another CAL programme.

Adding Sound
We were told that we had to add a sound in our CAL programme. We went to the insert tab and import sound file so that the sound is in the library. The only thing that we had to do to add the sound into the programme is that we have to code the sound file in.

Editing Sound in Audacity
I haven’t used audacity before so I wouldn’t know to edit a sound file especially if that sound file will only play for about 1 second.  I haven’t used it before but I did used the software to change the sound file a little different.

Editing video in premier pro
We used the premier pro software to edit the video on the CAL programme by shorten the original video that will suit the target audience. I used the software before and I know some of the main features of premier pro as well as knowing how to cut bits of a video.

Importing Video
Importing the video is something almost the same to importing a sound file in adobe Flash and the same goes to adding the video in by code is the same as adding the code to add the sound in Flash.

Adding Action Script
I didn’t do much of the action script because I didn’t before we were giving the 3rd assignment while still in planning stages we were also practicing on adobe flash and while I was practicing with the action script it didn’t worked well with me so when it came to the 3rd assignment I didn’t get involved with action script.

Consistency of pages
The number of pages is that is on programme would be the correct amount of pages to have on a CAL programme. Having a CAL programme that has 5 or fewer pages would seem that the creators behind it don’t know what they are doing or what it is about and having to many pages would make the programme bored real quickly.

Time Management
The time management while I was working on this assignment is was that I would work on the work once I have been given the work so that I once I have finish off the work for the assignment I can finish off the rest of my assignments for when I come back from my weekend. If I didn’t had finish the night that I was given I would come in to school on Friday.

Working as a group
My time while I was working in a group was a good experience to work as a group and as well as working on Adobe’s Flash because I have little knowledge of using flash and I only used the software once during the 1st year of Level 3 but I couldn’t remember what I created while I was working on Flash.

Changes I made
There are an number of changes that I believe that could help improve the CAL Programme is that the images for the animation could use better images and I would also make the rock formations, volcanoes and famous landmarks contain more info on each page.

Likes/Dislikes
The stuff that I like about the CAL programme is the design layout of the CAL programme. It looked more professional looking and the choice of colours that we as a group chosen looked even more professional looking because blue and black looks better than any colour with black.

Future Improvements
The improvements that I think that could make the CAL programme is that the images for the animation could use better images and I would also make the rock formations, volcanoes and famous landmarks contain more info on each page. Another improvement that I believe could work is that the images find within the pages could use better images.

Did you achieve what you set out to do?
I believe that the CAL programme has reached what I believe is perfect for the target audience which is key stage 2 students. I think that if the improvements that I said should happen the CAL programme would look better.
